Quality Management System (QMS) Readiness for High-Temperature Materials

Canopy Technologies, a division of Canopy Aerospace & Defense and our advanced materials R&D Center of Excellence, recently qualified its low-density ceramic billet production line in accordance with AS9100 quality management system (QMS) standards. These low-density ceramics, based on a formulation referred to as the ‘alumina-enhanced thermal barrier’ (AETB), are critical components used in the space and defense supply chain. Key properties include ultra-low thermal conductivity, radiofrequency transparency, densities ranging from 8-20 pounds/cubic foot, and high tensile strength that can be improved through coatings applied in-house at our facility in Colorado using advanced robotics. Achieving this milestone enables us to support high-throughput production for customers using this material for hypersonic and space systems – with capacity for over 1000 billets/year and associated machining capabilities.
